Alex Vandebril, Sculptor
Searching his theme in the complex world of today, it's not easy to define Alex' work. Nevertheless he pursues clarity and harmony in his sculptures.

Alex chooses age-old stones in grooves in function of the idea that he unconsciously or consciously associates with his creation. During manual chiselling, he discovers the intrinsic qualities of the stone one step at a time.
He translates imagination and poetry into sculptures. His realizations in bronze, terracotta, limestone the Caen (France) and blue Irish hard stone show a personal, surprising evolution and a pure feeling which fascinates art lovers.
If Alex’ design is figurative or abstract, the elaborated topic will be partially determined by the form and the crack line of the stone block-system. According to 'taille-direct' method, he generally chisels in stone without a preceding drawing or a scale model in clay. This is a creative process of giving and receiving. He forms its imagination, taking into account mass and volume of the chosen stone.
The stone is ‘inspired', the artist is ‘passionate’. Ideas are arranged and filtered. Often Alex provokes the incredible meeting of the natural element: the raw stone, with the symbol of love and sensuality: a human couple.
You will find his sculptures in Belgium and the USA.
Alex lives in Antwerp (Belgium). He obtained the high degree of sculpture at the Art Academy of Hoboken with master sculptor, Rafaël Vergauwen and works as a sculptor in his open studio ‘Duingedicht’ in Koksijde at the Belgian coast.
He started as a young research engineer in Medical Electronics (Janssen Pharmaceutica-Johnson & Johnson), and subsequently taught applied electronics at the Don Bosco T. I. in Hoboken for 30 years. He is author of a technical bestseller, a cultural polyglot and a part-time guide in the catacombs of Rome’s Via Appia. He is coordinator of a variety of art projects and sculpture courses. Sculpture creations, hammer and widia chisels are Alex´s habitat.
